TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

My (Not So Happy) TOEFL iBT Home Edition Experience – Edouard

Hi everyone. I will share my experience on the TOEFL iBT HOME EDTION.

I took the test yesterday. It took me around 6 hours. One of the worst experiences I ever encountered…

The test crashed more than 10 times. It happens at the beginning, in the reading section… I lost my focus and concentration every time it happened …

Then, it happens a few times more during the other parts but was solved quickly. The technician just restarted the app and I continued…

But during the last section, during the first question in the writing part, I was writing my conclusion… when the site crashed again…

So a technician helped me one more time but when he reloaded the app it didn’t work. I was very stressed because I have been doing the test for around 3 hours and I didn’t want to lose my work even though they give me another date…

So I waited again… May be about 4 technicians helped me and sometimes they just passed my case to another technician…

I kept staring at the screen… In total, I waited for about 1 hour and 30 minutes… I didn’t want to quit it …

Then after the problem was solved, they succeed to find the text I was writing (with about a paragraph missing…)

I couldn’t totally focus anymore after all those waiting… I finished the first question, but then I needed to do the last one which is another 30 minutes of concentrated work…

I finally finish it. But it took so much time really. You even can’t have your phone or move because they are watching you on the webcam…

So this was my experience. I think that it would be better to wait until we can go to exam centers… even though the home is more quiet and calm… But the software is not that good you know… You can lose all your data, your time, and your focus…

I don’t know if this happened to others…

Have a good time, work hard, and be warned about that!!
